House League

The House League is an entry point into the game of hockey. It is targeted at developing the skills of the beginner to the intermediate player to both enjoy the game and eventually progress into the more competitive levels. The focus for the house level is on skating, hockey skills and working as a team. Players are also expected to develop grit, responsibility, teamwork, and leadership qualities through the house hockey program.

House Hockey Rules

Players of different levels enjoy the house program. Our volunteer coaching staff, guided by our league coaching coordinator, ensures that players of all skill levels learn to work as a team and compete together. Once players have learned basic skating and stick skills, they are ready for the house program. As a guideline, we recommend that players complete one of the following:

• One to two sessions of Learn To Play
• The 8U (Mites) Program
• A session of Little Ice Cards

Preseason September 14 to September 26th.

Session 1:

Begins September 28th to December 19th (Tournament on December 19th)

If necessary teams will be rebalanced during the December break.

Session 2:

Begins January 4 to March 14 (Tournament on March 13 & 14)



All practices and games are held at Iceland Sports Complex

Division Birth Years:

• 9-11  Division: 2015, 2016 & 2017
• 12-14 Division: 2011*, 2012, 2013, & 2014

Exceptions will be made for younger and older players on a case-by-case basis. Coaches will evaluate these players based on hockey experience and direct observation at league-wide rate-skates. Contact us if you have a 2018 or 2011 player that you believe is a good fit for house hockey.

• Session 1: $450
• Session 2: $450
• Both Sessions: $855

Jersey: Included in program fee

Association Fee: $100 (If player participated in Session 1, association is not required to be paid again. Please reach out to houseleague@louisvilleicecardinals.com for discount code.)

USAH Fee: Age-specific

Attending one rate skate is mandatory. Players are encouraged, but not required to attend both.

9-11 age group

• Friday September 10th 6-7 pm and/or
• Saturday September 13th 9:45-10:45 am

12-14 age group

• Wednesday September 8th 6:30-7:30 pm and/or
• Saturday September 12th 8:30-9:30 am

Preseason isn’t considered mandatory, but it is a zero-cost opportunity for players and coaches to enhance development with additional ice time.

Preseason Dates: September 14 to 28^th at the usual practice times.

Team scrimmages will be held for both age groups during our allotted game times on Saturday September 19^th and 26^th 7:30am to 11:00am.

Games are held on Saturday mornings.

Session 1

Games will begin on Saturday October 3^rd and end with a Tournament on Saturday December 19^th.

Session 2

Games will begin on Saturday January 9^th and end with a Tournament on Saturday & Sunday March 13 & 14^th.

Game times are: 7:00, 7:55, 9:05, 10:00

*Games will occasionally occur on Friday Nights.

Practices will be held once a week and will last one hour. To keep our league balanced and competitive please be as flexible as possible with your practice nights.

• Monday: 6:30 to 7:30pm
• Wednesday: 6:30 to 7:30pm
• Friday: 6:00 to 7:00pm

Volunteer coaches, assistant coaches, and managers are the most important elements of having a successful league. If you are interested in filling one of these roles, please let us know.

Coaches work with our Director of House League, Travis Ross, to deliver consistent and developmentally appropriate hockey coaching.

Managers assist with scoreboard management, filling out score sheets, and team communications.
